John Wisnom's “Gisei-Gigee Yahyahs Out♪” (Sample: Vols. 1-10)

The following is a sample of the data I translated in preparing the sections on special effects (擬声音・擬似音) during the process of rendering The Five Star Stories into English and which now appears with illustrations in the Appendices to the published series.

During that process I received much help (more like stole a lot of licks) from the lexicologists "under the careful supervision of Kevin Taylor," who have compiled the Internet dictionary entitled somewhat pretentiously Ka-boom: A Dictionary of Comicbook Words on Historical Principles Based on the Latest Conclusions of the Most Dubious Wordologists & Comprising Many Hundreds of New Words which Modern Literature, Science & Philosophy have Neglected to Acknowledge as True, Proper & Useful Terms & Which Have Never Before Been Published in Any Lexicon. It is located at http://www.nlc-bnc.ca/eppp-archive/100/200/300/ktaylor/kaboom/Kaboomhome.htm. Together with its thesaurus, Bzzuurkk, Ka-boom not only provided necessary information and hours of entertainment (lotsa laffs), but also showed me how far the science (?) of comic book onomatopoeia has come since the days of Marvel Comics and Smokey Stover. (Note: "F&Gs" in Tables refer to the fun and games enjoyed with Kaboom, etc. in suggesting English equivalents.) As to what y'all can do with it, please see http://www.gearsonline.net/fss/interview1.html
