Patro Glossaries

JE and EJ glossaries from PATRO.

ESP

Search for patents worldwide, including text searches of the title and abstract of Japanese patents.

To search by number on this page, enter JP followed by the Japanese era year (or Gregorian year) and a 6-digit number (like JP55091663). Use a zero to fill in if there aren't six digits after the era number, but don't use a zero if the era number is less than 10.

JPO

Search for Japanese patents and utility models from the Japan Patent Office. Use the format as indicated, writing "H09" not "H9" for Heisei year 9, and using single-byte character input. Recent applications are machine translated to English on the fly. It may be easier to fetch the Japanese source from ESP.

Horsefrog Glossary and Translation Courses

A wide range of JE/EJ patent terms in the glossary as well as patent translation courses. Q&A forums as well as many other resources for the patent translation professional and wannabe translator.

US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

The Quick Search is particularly handy at finding any text in US patents from 1976 to the present. Patents older than that can be searched by patent number of US classification only.
